Ex-postal carrier faking workplace injury found fraudulent

A former Lafayette Postal Office employee who was receiving workers’ compensation payments after sustaining work-related injuries admitted she was faking it the whole time in a federal court hearing on Monday, June 3.

Ex-postal carrier Cathy Wrench Cashwell’s claim that she lost the ability to lift mail trays into her work truck due to a 2004 shoulder, arm, and neck injury in the workplace was placed under suspicion when she appeared in a September 2009 episode of the popular TV game show The Price is Right and was able to spin the “big wheel” twice. A September 2012 indictment also alleged that she was seen zip-lining as part of a Carnival Cruise vacation in August 2010.

Cashwell is scheduled to be sentenced in September.
