New commissioners for NC’s Industrial Commission eyed

Six posts in North Carolina’s Industrial Commission will likely be empty and subsequently filled with fresh faces come spring with the approval of a Republican-introduced Senate bill seeking to rebuild and fortify the commission last week.

The bill also seeks to empty out the posts of Democratic appointees of the Coastal Resources Commission, Environmental Management Commission, Utilities Commission, and 12 special superior court judges, among others.

According to Jacksonville Senator Harry Brown, one of the proponents of the bill, the proposed legislation serves to put into position a new breed of leaders who will work towards the efficiency of the commission and gear it towards a more balanced treatment of workers and businesses in the handling of workers’ compensation claims, as he argues that the current commission is too tough on businesses.
